- Product Description β2-Microglobulin, with a molecular weight of 11.8 KDa, is a low molecular protein existing in blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The determination of serum β2-Microglobulin is beneficial to diagnose kidney disorders, malignant tumor and their treatment & prognosis evaluation. β2-Microglobulin can be almost re-absorbed and degraded through glomerulus in proximal renal tubule at normal condition. Decreasing glomerular filtration rate and renal blood flow causeβ2-Microglobulin concentration increases early and dramatically superior to serum creatinine in patients with acute nephritis, chronic nephritis and chronic renal insufficiency etc.. High blood pressure and diabetes caused kidney injury also lead to increasing serum β2-Microglobulin.β2-Microglobulin plays an important role in the early diagnosis of kidney injury. Urine β2-Microglobulin concentration is correlated to the development and function of renal tubule. Urine β2-Microglobulin obviously increase with renal tubule re-absorption function obstacle, which called tubular proteinuria, mainly occurring in following diseases: pyelonephritis, antibiotics toxic nephropathy, renal tubular damage caused by heavy metal poisoning, etc..
